Minnesota PFAS Deadline Nears; New Mexico Seeks Input
Manufacturers tracking state requirements for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have two important developments to watch this week. In Minnesota, a key deadline is approaching for companies that need additional time to meet the state’s PFAS reporting requirements. Meanwhile, New Mexico is collecting stakeholder input that could influence how the state’s PFAS law, including its exemptions, is implemented going forward.
Minnesota: PFAS Reporting Extension Deadline — Aug. 16
Manufacturers seeking additional time to comply with Minnesota’s PFAS in Products reporting
requirements must submit extension requests, along with the required fee, postmarked by this Sunday, Aug. 16.
Minnesota’s PFAS reporting program, established under Amara’s Law, applies to products with intentionally added PFAS that are sold, offered for sale or distributed in the state. Manufacturers must report product descriptions, PFAS uses and functions, and concentration information through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s (MPCA) PRISM system. MPCA previously moved the initial reporting deadline from July 1st to September 15th, giving manufacturers more time to gather supply chain data and learn the reporting platform.
Manufacturers that are still unable to meet the September 15th deadline may request a one-
time, 90-day extension, moving their deadline to December 14th. The request must explain
the circumstances, describe compliance efforts to date and outline a plan for completing the
submission.

New Mexico: NMED Webinar on PFAS Protection Act Review
The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) will host a public webinar Tuesday, August 18th, from 2:00–3:30 p.m. to discuss the state’s ongoing review of the PFAS Protection Act and opportunities for stakeholder input.
During the 2026 legislative session, the New Mexico Legislature passed House Joint Memorial 3 (HJM 3), directing the preparation of two reports on implementation of the state’s 2025 PFAS law:
- The Environmental Improvement Board will review implementation of the PFAS Protection Act, including the effectiveness of its implementing rules.
- NMED will work with other state agencies to examine the public health, environmental and economic impacts of the law’s exemptions and recommend whether those exemptions should remain, be changed or be eliminated.
The webinar will provide an overview of current PFAS requirements, explain the legislature’s request under HJM 3 and outline ways stakeholders can provide input. To gather information for the reports, NMED will also begin accepting public comments online starting August 18th.
