In Memoriam: Ed Hudgins

Ed “Tex” Hudgins, retired from Ergon, died on July 14 at the age of 78. 

Ed was born in Sweetwater, Texas. In high school, he excelled in football and was named Prep All-American in 1963.  He went on to play linebacker for Mississippi State University, graduating in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He also pursued further education at the University of Michigan and MIT.

Ed’s career began at Sun Oil Company, leading him to various states before settling in Philadelphia, PA as Vice President of Finance and eventually Vice President of Sales over seven international companies. In 1986, Ed moved his family to Jackson, MS to join Ergon, where he played a pivotal role in their start-up operation in lubricants and specialty products. He retired in 2014 as Senior Vice President in petroleum specialties overseeing all sales and marketing.

Ed was deeply committed to his faith and community. He served on the board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) for the state of Mississippi for 28 years, and he was an active deacon and Sunday School teacher at various churches. In his later years, he was an integral member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and the TOMBS (The Old Men Bible Study).

Ed married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Johnson Hudgins, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years until her passing in 2020. Ed is survived by his three loving daughters and their spouses, nine cherished grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

A visitation is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 20th, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. In his memory, donations can be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
