David Richards of RichardsApex Becomes ILMA President

David Richards of RichardsApex Inc. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, assumed the presidency of the Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA) today during the 2026 ILMA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. He succeeds James P. Carroll, executive vice president of Schaeffer Manufacturing Co.

Richards began his professional career with G. Whitfield Richards Co. as a sales engineer in 1987 and later worked in purchasing, logistics, international business administration and operations. He now serves as chief operating officer of RichardsApex, a fourth-generation family-owned company formed through the 1997 merger of G. Whitfield Richards Co. and Apex Alkali Co.

Richards has served on ILMA’s Board of Directors since 2018 and has participated in most Association committees, as well as the Executive Committee.

“You bring something very important to this job: nearly four decades in the lubricant industry, experience across virtually every aspect of the business and more than 15 years of service to ILMA,” Carroll said as he passed the gavel to Richards. “You know this organization, you know our members and you know the issues.”

Richards said his presidency will focus on three priorities: uncompromising advocacy, upholding quality and integrity, and securing the industry’s next generation.

“The Association does not belong to the Board; it belongs to you,” Richards told members. “Your insights, your energy and your dedication are what give ILMA its strength.”

Richards encouraged members to stay engaged, join committees and contribute their expertise as ILMA works to support independent lubricant manufacturers through a changing business and regulatory environment.

“Thank you again for this incredible privilege,” Richards said. “Let’s protect our manufacturing drive and keep the world moving forward.”
